It is a cloudy day today. The thunder is rumbling and it appears that we may get a little rain. Boy do we ever need it desperately. I am not holding my breath, but don't be surprised if you hear about me doing some sort of rain dance. hehehe

Yeah… my own spelling. My English teachers would be so proud. A random conversation with Isabelle today.

Isabelle: Mommy! Does our drink turn into pee?

Me: Yep!

Isabelle: Mommy! Does our food turn into poop?

Me: Yep!

Isabelle: Where do ants come from?

Me: puzzled look at the subject change.

Isabelle: Ants come from the ground MOM! They dig with their hands and feet and we dig with a shovel. Wouldn’t it be funny if ants had shovels?

Me: It would be funny to see an ant with a shovel.

Isabelle: Mom what is the shape of the soap container?

Me: Which one?

Isabelle: The blue one! It is a shape and I don’t know which shape. I can’t remember it.

Me: Is it a spray bottle shape?

Isabelle: No! It’s in the shape of an oval. That is the shape I was thinking of but I just didn’t know it.

Me: Good job! You couldn’t remember it but you worked through it and figured it out.

Isabelle: Yes! I figured it out. Mom, I love you!

A quick hug and she is gone! Love moments like this.

Slow Speed Scrap

These photos look kind of hazy, but it is mostly from the smoke surrounding the fire pit. We were at the community holiday festival, which has become a tradition since moving to Houston. The highlight of the night for us other than playing in real snow is making and eating s’mores! Yummy!

Connie Prince hosts a Speed Scrap over at Scrapbook Bytes on Sundays, but she asked Tracy of Trixie Scraps to stand in for her. It was a last minute thing and either way I was unable to attend as we were roaming about the area shopping for furniture. BLECH! Late last night (into the wee hours of this morning) I scrapped with the speed scrap instructions that were left in the forum. Most speed scraps are about two hours total – one hour to chat and an additional hour to scrap, but in this instance extra time was allotted which is great for me – the slow speed scrapper!

No Photos Santa

Isabelle has never really cared for sitting in Santa’s lap. This year, of course was no different. We have talked about Santa a lot over the past few weeks, in hopes of changing her mind out the jolly guy. She thought she was ready too, until it was actually her turn for the lap. EEK!

I used Radiant in Red (see my credits for links) by Connie Prince. This is currently available only at Gotta Pixel as part of the Gotta Grab It event, but will be available in all of Connie’s stores on Dec. 17th. Today is the last day to pick up the pieces of Radiant in Red for only $1.00

I also used this fabulous wire alpha from Danyale. This is Danyale’s contribution to the December Gotta Grab It Event at Gotta Pixel.

I was excited to wake this morning and find that I this page was selected as Layout of the Day at Gotta Pixel.

The Sweet Smells of Fall

Isabelle has always been curious about things around her. During an eventful day on Grandpa’s farm she discovered the bright red seeds from a Magnolia tree lying on the ground. She asked what they were right away, which sparked a conversation about how seeds are sown and how trees grow. I mentioned that Magnolia trees were my favorite because the flowers smell so lovely. We both discovered that the seeds have a very distinct scent as well. It was a fun discovery and a precious moment shared.

I had fun creating this page. I used wordart from Danyale. This is a fun pack of wordart – LOVE it!

I also used Colie’s new We Are Thankful kit. There are gobs of sweet ellies in this kit that it was hard to decide what to put on the page. I wanted to use all of them! :grin:

Little Boy Blue

This photo was taken several years ago, but the memory is still pretty vivid. To set the scene… I was on a ladder removing gobs of plushie friends from a shelf that bordered the ceiling of the room on all sides. Josh started out in the papasan chair, listening to music and vibrating. :grin: He would giggle as the critters fell to the floor. I got the silly idea to snap a photo of him surrounded by all of the discarded plushies. At first he was as happy as a lark, but things took a turn for the worse when I started taking photos from the ladder. I am not sure now if it was the flash of the camera or him being blinded by the light or what, but he went from happy baby to meltdown in an instant. This particular photo was snapped just before the meltdown occurred, so it is actually hard to tell that he is about to lose it.

I used Sweet Slumber from Colie’s Corner, which is going to be retiring soon, so don’t miss getting this kit while it is on sale!

This Boy

This sweet page has ended up being a two pager, with the second page filled with lots of personal thoughts. It is funny how this page came to life. I saw the flourishes from Danyale and knew exactly what I wanted to create. My vision was clear through the entire creating process, By the end it all changed. The photos took me in a different direction. I could not be more thrilled with the result.

The new Flourishes bundle from Danyale are divine. They take me right back to my paper scrapping days. The stamped word art is the perfect addition to heritage/family pages.

In addition to the bundle, I also used Cheryl’s Fuss Free Templates: Don’t Box Me In – Set 2. I love Cheryl’s temps because they are a great jump start to my pages. For example, my page was created using temp #3 (in the bottom left corner of the product image). Now look at my page and compare. There is quite a bit of difference.

I used other products in addition to the what is mentioned above, and the links to all products are included with the credits below the layout. Have a peek at my finished page.

Not So Cool With Santa

At least that is how Isabelle feels about the jolly fellow!

This photo was taken in Dec 2009. It’s been a year, and she still feels the same way. She has actually heard Alan and I discussing going to see Santa, and I have seen the panic already setting in. Josh has even tried to convince her that she will get candy if she sits on his lap and shares her Christmas wishes with Santa. She is not buying it, at least not for a meager piece of candy. HA! New Santa photos coming soon! At least with Josh.

Is She Too Young?

I have started asking myself this question more often these days.

Isabelle, Josh too, are both addicted to technology. I know that DH and I are to blame since we are techno geeks, but who knew the monsters that we would create in our kids. LOL! When I saw the So Much Cooler Online bundle from Wyld Web Designs, I knew the exact photos I was going to scrap. To crank start my mojo, which has taken on an unscheduled hiatus lately, I used Don’t Box Me In Set 2 from Fiddle Dee Dee!

Here is the result!

Journal Reads:
From the time this girl wakes up in the morning she is asking for either the iphone or the laptop. Isabelle knows more about how to work the iphone than mom or dad. She is also guilty of deleting things that she is “bored of”. Those being her exact words! When the iphone is not available she is asking to watch Netflix on the puter or to play Starfall dot com! It is all I can do to keep up. Is it just me, or do you think that age three is a tad too young to be so plugged in?

We don’t have a secret family recipe or anything special like that. Our favorite is the original Nestle Tollhouse recipe. We have used it for as long as I can remember. It works for us and we didn’t see a reason to change it. When I saw these new fabulous recipe card templates from Connie Prince, I immediately knew which kit I wanted to use to print our recipe… Milk and Cookies of course!

A Wish

I wish the best for my kids in every way imaginable. I hope and dream for them to have more opportunities than I did. When I see this photo I am reminded of a time when Josh was such a little guy. Everything was still so new. Every turn brought new discovery. Things complicate as your little one grows up and develops a mind of his very own. LOL!

I used pieces from the fabulous and ginormous Black Friday Grab Gag collab from Jen of Graham Like the Cracker and Wendy of wm[squared]. Here is the grab bag revealed (shhhh – just admire the view) this is not all that is in the grab bag. It’s just what I used. Good Night Moon

It’s funny how the little things can mean so much. Something new that we have started to do as a family is to go outside in the evening just before bedtime. In jammies, and with flashlights, Josh and Isabelle eagerly step out onto the porch into the night. They wander around looking at everything as if it is brand new. They quiet each other and inquired about the sounds that they hear. We talk about the stars, planes, and the clouds. The weather is always discussed. Before our evening adventure is complete a search for the moon is inevitable so that everyone can say goodnight!

I used a cute Halloween kit from Colie’s Corner to create this non photo page. Little Heebie Jeebies and Little Heebie Jeebies Addon.

I also used All About Me Alpha from Isabel Mendez of Crisdam Designs. I recolored it to work with my page, and am happy with the result!

Perseverance

We have been going to Lowe’s Build and Grow Workshop since Joshua was 6 months old. Not kidding! :) Dad did the projects for Joshua since he wasn’t able to do them himself. Things have changed as Joshua has gotten older, he is able to do most of the projects with very little guidance from dad. He works really hard to do it himself. While some projects are easy others do provide a challenge. He has yet to give up! Present day, Isabelle has joined the Build and Grow crew and she is still learning the ropes.

Metro Girl

I know I sound like a broken record. I just cannot say enough how much I really love living in a metro area. Especially having children. See, I grew up in a very small town, and I am not knocking where I grew up. I was born and then raised in a very rural community. It was not a hard life, but knowing what I now I really wish I, we (our family, my brothers and sister) had more opportunities growing up. I know it is definitely what I want for my kids. I really enjoy being able to take the kids to the museum or even to the park and it not be a major event. The nearest major shopping area to my home town is 60 miles. It’s definitely something that has to be planned. I was so happy to see the latest collab from Trixie Scraps and Mye De Leon – City Girl. You will fall in love with this very sophisticated kit.

Okay… It’s been about a week since my last post. That’s b/c I have been busy posting on other blogs. Mye De Leon’s blog for one. You should see the freebie frenzy going on over there!

Isabelle really likes to draw. When we are outside she wants to draw on the sidewalk, the drive way, the neighbors long drive way, the porch, the brick… Did I mention she likes to draw?

Connie Prince has not one, not two, but three grab bags for DSD. Each one is fabulous! I got to play with two of the three. A girl needs to sleep ya know! ;)

A Split Personality

Not me, one of my littles! She can go from sad to happy and all the way back again in a split second. Alan unearthed these photos from his laptop tonight, and I knew I had to scrap them! Isabelle takes after me in so many way, wearing her emotions right on her face is definitely one of the traits I passed on to her.

I used this kind of blue kit from Trixie Scraps. Bring on the Rain is available exclusively at Funky Playground Designs while Tracy is a guest there for the month of November.

I also used a template from the brand new November Templatetopia collaboration between Trixie Scraps and Connie Prince. Their creative genius combined is now being called North meets South Studios! Look for more greatness from these two fine ladies!

Isabelle cracks me up! It seems when I ask her to look at the camera any more these days that she looks everywhere except where I want her to. I will ask her to smile and she tightens her lips and mumbles to me that she IS smiling. It generally takes upwards of 50 shots to get one keeper at any given photo session. This particular photo session was no different. In one photo she is gazing away from the camera lens, and in the photo opposite she is making the squooshie face that I have seen a thousand times. Not the perfect shots, but definitely keepers!

Everyday Moments

I actually started working on this page several days ago. It wasn’t until last night when I was talking to Alan about watching the clouds with the kids the other day that I realized that I had not finished the page. ACK! As luck would have it the page only needed the journaling and title to be complete. I used Make the Time kit and Template from Connie Prince.

This is a layout of my super sweet artist in training. I didn’t feel inspired to journal on this page, b/c I felt the photo stands on it’s own. I love the new Repeat After Me Templates from Cheryl of Fiddle Dee Dee Designs. They are great for repetitive photos on a page, which makes a great impact.

I also used the new Sugar Overload Kit from Colie and it is only available at Scrapbook Bytes where she is guesting for the month of November!

No kit would be complete without some coordinating clustery goodness from the fantastical Danyale. She rocked it out with this bunch using some goodies from Best in Show and My Pet. It is so nice when a designer creates several kits that work together so I can mix and match from my digi stash.

It is as simple as using the swagbucks toolbar during your daily internet searches. You can take your swag money and enter some awesome sweepstakes (they gave away ipad recently – woot!) Or you can save your swagbucks for gift cards which is what I am doing. I have won a few of the sweepstakes, but have decided now to save my swagbucks for cash!

I used to be such a dancing fool. In my younger days (man… am I old or what?) I would call up the party crew and we would hit the clubs on the weekend and rock our socks off. Today is a busy day in that we are getting ready to make a trip to Jasper. There is so much to do and so very little time in which to do it. I am a little anxious about leaving the house with all of the rain that we have been having recently. :sigh:

I am soooo excited. I was just over at Gotta Pixel and noticed that I had received a ton of comments on one particular layout. After a little investigation I found that my “Little Man” layout was chosen as Layout of the Day for July 22, 2010! Woot! This just makes my whole day! Mye De Leon formerly known as Bubblescraps Designs has has a store at Scrapbook Bytes but has just opened a store over at Gotta Pixel. I am so excited that she is selling at my digi home! With that being said, I was more than happy to play with this fun new kit called Man of the House. The bundle has everything! I am soooo not kidding!

Crazy Week and Stuffs

It has been one crazy week. It has rained here every single day for over a week. UGH! That makes for some stir crazy kids to say the least. We have been spending a few hours outside in the evenings just before bedtime to give them an opportunity to burn off some energy. The up side is that the temperature has been very mild for this time of year.

Tomorrow is another big release day! Here is a sneak peak of what Jen of Graham Like the Cracker will be releasing on Friday at Scrap Matters. It will also splash into the store at Gotta Pixel on Saturday

Since Alan doesn’t have to rush off to work at the crack of 9:00am, we get to lounge around and start the day when we are ready. Saturday is also the start of the weekend, which for us is when we get in the bulk of our family time. Even if it is just a trip to the park it is something we all do together. It’s mid July and we have yet to see triple digits in Texas. I am not complaining… trust me. I will save the complaints for next month when the heat REALLY sets in.

It is so hard for me to believe that my little princess is three years old. It seems like only yesterday I was bringing her home from the hospital. Where does the time go? I have so many photos of her that I need to get scrapped

Back in the Swing of Things

Life is finally settling down after a visit from my sister that lives in Seattle. She flew in on the 8th and it was pretty much a whirlwind from the moment she landed until now. It was two weeks, but time literally flew by during the visit. With all of that being said, I got way behind on scrapping… Never mind the internet withdrawals that I endured. EEEEEKKKKK!

Here is a tiny recap of the first part of June.

8th Happy Birthday Tonia (sister) Tonia arrives from Seattle.
9th 3 hour drive to dad's, quick stop at Aunt's for potty break and a snack.
10th grocery store to stock up on goodies. Deep clean house.
11th work in the garden, clean and put up food from garden, cook from garden. Yum!
12th Girls Night Out for Tonia and I - meet up with friends at Bullfrogs.
13th More garden work.
14th Grandma Boykin visits.
15th Family friend visits from Shreveport.
16th Visit Uncle Jack and pick up a Moto Guzzi (restore project for dad).
17th Happy Birthday to me! Visit Boykin Springs (take pics), Meet brother and friends out at the lake for a swim, dinner at Amanda's complete with birthday brownies.
18th More time at the lake with brother and friends. Father's Day dinner at Martin's and a quick visit with some high school friends.
19th Morning of goodbyes, leave dad's and drive to mom's to celebrate a combined family birthday fiesta (mexican themed) for several June birthdays in our family, double birthday celebration (Tonia and I) at Joe's Crab shack, swimming.
20th Up at 4am to take sister to the airport. Father's Day lunch at Cheddar's. Shopping for new pool toys, more swimming.
21st So glad to be home, internet down most of the day - ACK!

My poor neglected blog! Seriously.... I have been super busy helping with the renovation in our house. With the weather warming up we have also been working in the back yard, which also means plenty of pool work. Whew! I was also super busy in May with the Queen of Scrap Contest over at Scrap Matters. Jen of the one and only Graham Like the Cracker has combined efforts with April of Stolen Moments and created a fancyful (yeah, that's right...I make up words people!) kit called Carry My Heart. BTW, the colors fit perfectly with Jen's wedding colors, so be on the lookout for some amazing wedding layouts with this kit. Okay, enough of my jabber. By now you are chewing on your fingernails with excitement. (No wait, that's me!) This pretty thing will be released on Friday at Scrap Matters.

The Aliens Have Landed

They're here! The aliens have landed. Houston!... we have a collab - and they call it Mischief Monsters! Take a good look at all of the lil monsters that are busy creating mischief with all of their cuteness.

Jen of Graham Like the Cracker and Connie Prince have joined forces to bring this adorable collaboration.

Aren't the colors here awesome? I love this bright color pallette!

You can see from the preview above that the kit comes with an alpha, but look - there is also an add-on alpha and it absolutely takes the cake.

The alpha is super cute, but look at this awesome word art! The perfect addition to a mishief makers project.

You might think that would be all, but no... there is still more! Connie has offered up some truly mischievous templates to help you create those trouble maker layouts with lots of ease!

I have been guesting for Amanda Carlson for the month of April. Pssst: I signed on for a March guest spot but Real Life took a crazy Jerry Springer-ish left turn some where and I didn't have any time to scrap with her goodies. She was so sweet to let me stay on as a guest in April. It has been fun trying out some of her fun designs. Here are a few of the lo I have created using some of her cute schtuffs. Isabelle LOVES chocolate. She calls it Cha-Quit! She def gets a double dose of sweet tooth, as Alan and I each have one a mile long. Poor thang!

Water Princess

I created this lo for the 4/16 scraplift challenge at Elemental Scraps. I snagged inspiration from heb1976 lo entitled McKaye and Scarlett. I drew inspiration from the blending. I was thrilled to be able to use this 'un-perfect" photo since the blending masked some of the flaws. I really like the photo b/c of the sunlight shining on the water, but b/c of the angle this was taken B's face is heavily shadowed and dark. Thanks to blending the photo does not look half bad, especially with the added empahsis of a better photo added to the lo.

I completed this lo for the What's the Word Challenge over at Elemental Scraps. The word for this challenge was to incorporate some form of the word mother into a layout.

So I recently joined Shawnery Mathis' creative team and have had the pleasure of working with some of her fabulous designs. I really love her doodled stuff. This lo is from a trip to Pantego Park with some of my Arlington mom friends. This park is amazing in that most of the play area is covered with a mesh tarp that allows some light to shine through but deflects the harmful rays at the same time keeps the heat to a manageable level.

Here is another lo that I created. As you can see we are in the midst of some potty learning, and in case you are wondering... it is not going well, even this late in the game. :sigh: She does get excited when we have a successful potty experience. Hence the peppy title: It's a Potty Party!

This is me at a Mardi Gras party at my sister's back in 2002. The photo is an oldie but it fit this kit like a champ! I could not resist dragging it out and using it with the great colors in this kit.

This lo is reflecting a little bit of the bad times. We aren't always happy and chipper around here. Josh had just finished having a bit of a fit after being told that he could not have or do something that he wanted. It didn't take long to get over it, but boy was it brutal listening to him wale at the time.

Last but not least is a recent lo I created for Shawnery's Scrap from a List chat that she hosts every Friday over at Gotta Pixel at 11amcst. This was fun because the list called for nine (9) papers. I decided to stack and arrange them instead of trying to use little paper strips. I tinkered with the photos of dad and the Farm-All in an attempt to age them. I also had to fudge some of the items from the list a little to stay within one kit (no egg in the kit I had picked to play with). I am pretty happy with the end result. Completed for Shawnery's Scrap from a List 04-02-10.

Pretty Scrappy Recipe Challenge

The requirements for this challenge are fairly simple. Follow the guidelines being as creative as possible using the recipe below. You can incorporate other items into your layout, but you must use at least 6 of the items listed. Since this is the month of Valentine's Day, your special challenge is to incorporate CHOCOLATE into your layout. So, 6 items in the recipe and chocolate!

Theme: Scrap Yourself!

Directions:

1. Select 2 papers: solid/pattern Done
2. Lay your first paper so that if covers the entire workspace. Done
3. Take the second paper insert it into your LO and decrease the size so that the paper is slightly smaller than the bottom layer. Done
4. Shadow the top layer. Done
5. Select a photo of you when you were younger and one of you taken within the past year. Done
6. Photos should be 4 x 6. vertical, color and black/white. Done
7. Place the younger version of you in the top right quadrant of your layout. Done
8. Frame it. Done
9. Place the most recent photo of you in the lower right hand quadrant of your layout. Done
10. Frame it. Done
11. Select the following number of elements and cluster the areas around these photos.
      Buttons - 4 Done - scattered along vertical string
      Flowers - 4 Done - in front of photos
      Leaf//Leaves - 2 Done - behind bottom photo

Feb 23 - Worn Out

Josh plays hard and it is evident. I could not believe my eyes when I saw these socks. When he put them on that morning they were sans holes and perfectly white. The socks never knew what hit them as he pushes with his feet (think Fred Flinstone) to make the wiggle scooter go faster.

Feb 24 - Weed Control

Isabelle is very pleased to bring mommy a fist full of ~~weeds~~ flowers. Today 50 more weeds bite the dust. You keep bringing mommy those "flowers" baby girl.

Feb 25 - Banana Nose

She eats so many bananas she is already turning into one.

Feb 25 Part two - Mint Choco Chapstick

This is literally one of the sweetest faces. Seriously. I am getting a sugar high just by looking at all of the chocolate mint chapstick on Joshua's ~~lips~~ face.

Feb 25 Part three - Chapped Cheeks

Love this photo of Isabelle slathering cherry chappstick on her cheeks. Scratch and Sniff baby! Note the cute sticker wrapped around her finger like a band-aid.

Feb 26 - Adventures in Potty Training

I decided not to post this photo b/c my dear daughter takes after her dear father in that she likes to sit on the potty sans clothing (TMI - I know). We are keeping those precious photos out of the hands of the pervs and to ourselves - thank you very much!

Feb 27 - Thrilled to Build a Transformer

This Saturday's Lowe's Build and Grow Clinic project was a race car Transformer. Josh is elated in this photo because he did most of the work on his own. We switched up this week and Alan helped Isabelle.

Feb 28 - Cabinet Fever

Okay, I could rant and rave over these cabinets - ALL day long. Whew! It wears me out way too much just thinking about it. I could tell you that it took 4 attempts to set in the bottom cabinets, but no, I won't do that. If I did that I might get frustrated all over again. Especially because after all of that wasted energy, there is still a massive gap. Crooked walls dive me nuts! This photo closes out the month of February. I wish I could say the same for the kitchen.
